I have just spent a very interesting 2 hours live chatting online with some very interesting people about communicating our research. The main points that I put forward were about using social media to get the biggest impact for the amount of time you spend disseminating. I’ve reposted my comments below:

One really successful thing that we tried at UCL in the Software Systems Engineering Group was live blogging and tweeting our workshops. We got a couple of thousand hits on the first workshop ‘Program Analysis and Transformation‘ that we blogged and engaged many people with what we were doing that were not able to attend in person.

We got people chatting with us on twitter who were researchers in our area located in other countries and also people working in industry who were interested in what we were up to. It worked really well, and was not too much effort.
